The Journey Is Getting Real: First Video Edits, Big Sacrifices, and What’s Coming Next

There’s a big difference between talking about something and actually watching it begin to take shape.

That’s where we are right now with Sampson Expedition.

For a long time, this was an idea. A dream. A vision for something bigger than just a van build or a YouTube channel. It was a picture in our minds of family adventure, faith, road trips, hard work, and building something meaningful together.

Now it’s getting real.

We’re editing our first episode, and once that starts happening, everything changes. What was once just an idea begins turning into a story you can actually see.

And honestly, that has brought a whole new level of excitement into our home.

This Didn’t Happen Overnight

What people see now is the beginning of the journey.

What they don’t always see is how long it took to get here.

I shopped for two years on Facebook Marketplace looking for the right van. Two years. Watching listings, comparing options, waiting, hoping, missing out on some, passing on others, trying to be patient, and looking for the right fit for our family and this vision.

That part wasn’t flashy. It was slow. Sometimes frustrating. Sometimes it felt like this might never actually happen.

But that search was part of the story too.

Because when you really want to build something worthwhile, sometimes it takes longer than you expected. Sometimes the waiting is part of the cost.

I Had to Sell a Dream to Buy a Different Dream

And there’s another part of this story that makes this whole thing even more real for me.

To buy this van and start this journey, I had to sell my dream vehicle—my 2005 Ford Excursion with a Cummins swap push

ing around 700 horsepower
.

That wasn’t just some vehicle.

That was a dream ride.

The kind of vehicle you don’t just casually let go of. The kind of vehicle that means something to you because of what it is, what it took to build, and how much you enjoyed it.

Selling it wasn’t easy.

But what made it easier was knowing where it was going.

I sold it to Project Unify Disaster Relief, and they badly needed it. So in a strange way, that vehicle didn’t just help fund a new dream for our family—it also went on to serve a real purpose for people doing urgent and meaningful work.

That matters to me.

Because sometimes moving into a new season means letting go of something you love to make room for something bigger. And sometimes God works it out so that the thing you release can bless somebody else too.

That’s exactly what this was.

I didn’t sell one dream because it didn’t matter. I sold one dream to help fund another one—one that includes my whole family, new memories, new roads, new stories, and something we can build together.

And knowing it went to a ministry that truly needed it made that decision a lot more meaningful.

Editing the First Episode

Right now, we’re deep in the process of editing our first video.

That’s exciting because this is the first real public step. This is where the story starts taking shape in a way other people can finally see.

Editing is fun, but it’s also work. You start sorting through clips, trimming things down, trying to keep the pace right, figuring out what tells the story best, and making decisions on what to leave in and what to cut.

But this one feels different because it’s the first.

This is our introduction. Our starting point. Our first real chapter.

We want it to feel honest. We want it to feel exciting. We want it to feel like us.

Not fake.
Not polished to death.
Not trying to be something we’re not.

Just real.

The Excitement in Our Family Is Growing

One of the best things about this whole process is seeing how the excitement is growing in our family.

The more real this gets, the more everyone starts feeling it.

This is no longer just some idea Dad has been working on in the background. This is becoming something we can all see, talk about, plan around, and dream about together. The van, the trips, the filming, the gear, the stories, the places we want to go—it’s starting to feel like the beginning of something special.

And that’s been fun to watch.

Because at the heart of all this, Sampson Expedition is not just about a vehicle. It’s about building a shared life and shared memories on purpose.

Ruby Is Part of the Adventure Too

And yes, Ruby is officially part of the story too.

Ruby, our one-year-old boxer, is going to be part of Sampson Expedition moving forward, and that honestly just makes the whole thing better.

She’ll be on the trips, in the moments, and probably in plenty of scenes where she creates complete chaos at exactly the wrong time. Which, if we’re being honest, is probably going to make for some pretty great content.

A family adventure channel without the dog would’ve felt incomplete anyway.

So yes—Ruby’s in.

We’re Hoping to Drop the First Episode This Week

That’s the part that really has us fired up right now.

We’re hoping to release our very first episode this week.

After all the behind-the-scenes work, the waiting, the planning, the searching, the sacrifice, the filming, the editing, and the dreaming, it’s exciting to finally be this close.

We really can’t wait.

There’s always a little nervousness when you launch something new. Once it’s out there, it’s out there. But more than nervousness, what we feel right now is gratitude and anticipation.

This thing we’ve been building is about to become public.

And that’s a big moment for us.

The Website and Merch Store Are Live

Another big step forward is that we now have a website and online merch store live at:

www.sampsonexpedition.com

That gives this whole thing a home base.

It’s a place where people can follow the journey, connect with the brand, and support what we’re building from the ground floor. Having the website live makes it all feel more official, and the merch store is a fun part of that too.

It’s one more sign that this is no longer just an idea in our heads.

It’s happening.

We’re Just Getting Started

There’s still a lot ahead.

A lot to build.
A lot to learn.
A lot to improve.
A lot of miles to drive.
A lot of memories to make.

But that’s exactly the point.

Sampson Expedition was never supposed to be about having everything perfectly figured out before we began. It’s about stepping into the journey, working hard, trusting God, building memories as a family, and seeing where the road leads.

For two years, I searched for the right van.

To make this happen, I sold a vehicle I truly loved—and it went to Project Unify Disaster Relief, where it was badly needed.

Now we’re editing episode one, our family is getting excited, Ruby is coming along for the ride, the website is live, and we’re hoping to drop our first episode this week.

That’s a pretty good place to be.

And we’re just getting started.
